The Tarrant County Medical Examiner’s office officially identified the deceased individual on Tuesday, revealing him to be Stanton McCamey Sembroski, a 49-year-old local resident of Denton.

According to the medical examiner’s findings, Sembroski succumbed to multiple gunshot injuries.

Early Sunday morning, at approximately 3:55 a.m., Denton police were called to a disturbance reported on Oxford Lane. The 1300 block of Oxford Lane, situated near Avondale Park and intersected by Windsor Drive, was the scene where authorities were alerted to a man firing a weapon at empty cars.

Upon their arrival, police located Sembroski, who resided on Oxford Lane. Initial reports indicate Sembroski allegedly opened fire with a weapon upon the officers’ approach.

The police department confirmed that they attempted to de-escalate the situation and speak with Sembroski, but he continued to resist and discharged his weapon towards law enforcement personnel.

In response, the officers fired back, resulting in Sembroski being struck by bullets. He was then transported to Medical City Denton by ambulance. Medical personnel determined he had died around 5:24 a.m.

A police spokesperson, Amy Cunningham, stated that the Denton Police Department had no prior record of interactions with Sembroski before this incident.

Following standard procedure, the four officers involved were placed on administrative leave immediately. The Denton Police Department is currently conducting an internal affairs probe into the incident.

Cunningham also mentioned that this investigation is still active.

Furthermore, the Texas Rangers are carrying out their own investigation into the matter, operating concurrently with the local police department’s inquiry.
