Fatal Shafter car crash death of Abraham Lopez

The Kern County Coroner’s Office officially identified the eighteen-year-old passenger who died following an accident on Lerdo Highway as Abraham Lopez from Shafter.

According to reports, the fatal incident occurred when a nineteen-year-old male driver of a 2006 Ford Windstar van failed to stop appropriately at a stop sign, which resulted in a collision with a 2023 Ford F250 pickup.

This serious incident happened on Monday, November 3, 2025, around 6:09 p.m. at the intersection involving Lerdo Highway and Scaroni Avenue.

The California Highway Patrol confirmed the van, driven by the eighteen-year-old man from Shafter, was involved in the crash with the pickup driven by a twenty-three-year-old man from Shafter, causing the van to become partially submerged in a nearby water canal.

Firefighters and concerned citizens assisted in the rescue efforts for those trapped inside the van.

Lopez succumbed to his injuries at Kern Medical the day after the crash.

The driver of the pickup vehicle reported only minor injuries from the collision.

CHP stated that neither alcohol nor drugs were considered factors in this unfortunate accident.
