Investigators revealed that Mr. Nichols, a 61-year-old resident of Hannibal, was pronounced deceased at the scene following the incident.

The Marion County Coroner, Rick Jones, formally identified the deceased on Wednesday, confirming that Jeffrey Nichols, from Hannibal, had died in the accident that occurred on Highway 61 the previous day.

According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol’s Sergeant Justin Dunn, the sequence of events began around 5 a.m. when Mr. Nichols was riding his bicycle. He lost control and collided with debris on the shoulder of the road, near the intersection with County Road 409. This impact ejected him from his cycle.

In an attempt to avoid the bike, the truck driver swerved, but this maneuver resulted in the vehicle striking Mr. Nichols. The coroner stated that the death was pronounced immediately at the location.
