A Kern County resident, Mariana Cervantes Flores, age 65, was killed in an unfortunate collision when struck by a fleeing vehicle during the early morning hours of August 3, 2025, in Bakersfield.
The incident occurred precisely at 1:43 a.m. at the specific location where Mount Vernon Avenue and Oregon Street intersect. Ms. Flores did not survive the impact and passed away at the scene.
Upon receiving notification of a possible traffic incident around 1:46 a.m., law enforcement from the California Highway Patrol (CHP) Bakersfield Area division arrived at the scene. Their report indicated the driver of the vehicle involved had departed before their arrival.
According to the CHP’s ongoing probe, Mariana Cervantes Flores was observed walking south along Mount Vernon Avenue. The authorities noted she was not within a designated crosswalk at the time of the accident. She was then hit by a white pickup truck that was moving in the same southbound direction.
The individual operating the pickup truck remains unidentified and failed to stop after the crash. The CHP is actively seeking witnesses or anyone with potential information regarding this event.
