The fatal e-scooter crash death of Joseph M. Pepin
Hampton authorities have confirmed Joseph M. Pepin, a 34-year-old man, as the individual killed in an early Saturday morning incident. Pepin, who previously resided in Westford, Massachusetts, had most recently been living in Hampton. Emergency dispatchers received a report around 12:54 a.m. on November 8, indicating someone was injured near Ashworth Avenue and G Street. Responding officers found Pepin without vital signs and later pronounced him dead at the scene by the local fire department.
Police officials stated that the preliminary investigation indicates Pepin was riding an electric scooter along the sidewalk in a northern direction when he suffered an apparent loss of control, resulting in the crash. No other motor vehicles were involved in the incident. It was reported that Pepin was not wearing protective headgear at the time of the accident. Hampton Police Chief Alex Reno expressed condolences, describing the event as profoundly saddening and tragic, and conveyed sympathies to the family and friends of Mr. Pepin.
