The aviation world is expressing grief over the passing of Warren Cilliers, a highly skilled aerobatic aviator who tragically perished in a small aircraft mishap on Saturday in Starke. He was 46 years old.
Officials have stated that Cilliers’ plane crashed at the Keystone Heights Airport as he was honing his aerial skills. The Bradford County Sheriff’s Office mentioned the incident happened close to the Florida International Rally & Motorsport Park, which was hosting the 11th annual Krawl’n For The Fallen gathering.
The National Transportation Safety Board has begun an inquiry to figure out what caused the accident.
The St. Augustine Airport, where Cilliers was a prominent member, released a statement on Sunday acknowledging his death. They referred to him as an “outstanding aerobatic pilot, gifted technician, and cherished friend.”
A memorial reference highlighted his character, saying he was a person whose “remarkable heritage was shaped by enthusiasm, talent, and compassion.”
Cilliers conducted Cilliers Aviation from the Palatka Airport, focusing on the upkeep and repair of high-performance aircraft. Certified as an FAA general aviation mechanic, he was recognized for his technical knowledge and his commitment to improving the craft of aerobatic flying.
Between 2016 and 2019, Cilliers served as a technician for Team 99 Mike Goulian in the Red Bull Air Race World Championship.
