Fatal Baltimore shooting death of Charles Brothers – Obituary
Baltimore police are investigating a deadly shooting that claimed the life of 32-year-old Charles Brothers, who was discovered unresponsive on his birthday in the Federal Hill area.
Officers were dispatched shortly after 2 a.m. Sunday to a parking lot in the 1000 block of Light Street, near East Cross Street, after reports of a man who was not responding. When police arrived, they found Brothers suffering from a gunshot wound to his upper body. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
Authorities later confirmed his identity on Monday and stated that the incident is being treated as a homicide. Investigators believe the shooting was a targeted act of violence.
Community leaders say the killing has heightened concerns about safety in the neighborhood. Jen Covino, safety chair for the Federal Hill Neighborhood Association, noted that this was the second homicide in the immediate area within the past two months and the fourth within a few blocks over the last 14 months.
Residents and business owners are increasingly worried about the impact of continued violence. Covino pointed out that the area includes an elementary school, nonprofit organizations, and a central business district that has seen declining nighttime activity. According to her, several local bars have reported significant year-over-year revenue losses, totaling more than $2 million combined, as customers avoid going out after dark.
The investigation remains ongoing as police continue working to determine the circumstances surrounding Brothers’ death.
