Damon Claiborne and Luis Gutierrez-Ramirez die in fatal Thurston County rest area deaths

Fatal Thurston County rest area deaths of Damon Claiborne and Luis Gutierrez-Ramirez – Obituary

Two men were found dead at separate Interstate 5 rest areas in Thurston County on Saturday, authorities confirmed.

Damon Claiborne, 54, believed to be from the Salem, Oregon, area, was discovered at the Maytown rest area serving southbound I-5 traffic around 1:30 p.m. The vehicle he was in had reportedly been parked there for about a week before State Patrol was notified.

Several hours later, Luis Gutierrez-Ramirez, 63, of Centralia, was found deceased at the Scatter Creek rest area on northbound I-5. His co-worker discovered him and alerted their employer, who then called 911.

The Thurston County Coroner’s Office stated that neither death is suspected to involve foul play. Medical examinations for both men are scheduled for Tuesday.
