Two young siblings, six-year-old Jayden Preciado and nine-year-old Jorge Preciado of Lynwood, died on Christmas Day after being ejected from a vehicle in a multi-car crash on the northbound 5 Freeway near Castaic. The Los Angeles County Medical Examiner’s Office confirmed their identities.
The collision occurred around 2:56 p.m. when a blue Nissan Rogue, carrying two adults and six children, struck a gold Toyota RAV4 that was stopped in the center median. CHP officers reported that the impact caused three minors to be ejected from the Nissan, with the Preciado children suffering fatal injuries despite immediate life-saving efforts at the scene.
The driver of the Nissan, 28-year-old Jorge Preciado of Long Beach, was arrested on site on suspicion of felony vehicular manslaughter and taken to the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station. Authorities continue to investigate the circumstances that led to the loss of control of the vehicle.
California Highway Patrol officials emphasized the tragedy highlights the critical importance of proper child safety restraints. Capt. Purvis expressed condolences to the families, noting the heartbreaking nature of losing two young lives in such a sudden accident.
