Fatal Scott County car crash death of Bryce Allen Sheaffer – Obituary

Bryce Allen Sheaffer, a 35-year-old man from Seymour, Indiana, died late Saturday night after being struck by vehicles while walking along Interstate 65 South in Scott County, authorities said.

Indiana State Police reported that the incident began around 11:25 p.m. on Dec. 28 when the driver of a semi-truck called 911, believing he had struck a pedestrian walking near the fog line of the interstate. Troopers responded and searched the area but were initially unable to locate anyone.

A short time later, another motorist contacted emergency services to report hitting a pedestrian who was walking northbound in an active driving lane roughly a half mile from the first reported location. First responders arrived and found Sheaffer, who was transported to a hospital, where he later died from his injuries.

Investigators determined that Sheaffer was first grazed by the semi-truck, continued walking along the interstate against traffic, and then entered the travel lane, where he was struck by a passenger vehicle. Police stated that alcohol or drugs are not believed to be factors for either driver involved.

The Indiana State Police continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the fatal incident.
