David Johnson, an 83-year-old resident of Walpole, died Saturday afternoon after being struck by an SUV while attempting to cross a street in town, according to authorities.

The fatal crash happened around 1:30 p.m. on Washington Street. The Norfolk District Attorney’s Office reported that Johnson was hit as he tried to cross the roadway. Emergency crews from the Walpole Fire Department transported him to a nearby hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.

Police said the SUV was driven by a 19-year-old woman who remained at the scene following the crash. Investigators noted that she contacted emergency services and has been fully cooperative with officials.

No charges have been filed at this time. The Norfolk District Attorney’s Office and Walpole Police Department continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the deadly pedestrian crash.
