Fatal Austin shooting death of Elias Mejia – Obituary

Austin police have confirmed that 51-year-old Elias Mejia was fatally shot Sunday morning in South Austin. Authorities say the shooter has not yet been identified and remains at large.

According to the Austin Police Department, officers responded just before 9:30 a.m. on Dec. 28 to a report of an unresponsive man inside a parked vehicle on the 700 block of W. William Cannon Drive, near S 1st Street and Bedichek Middle School. Upon arrival, officers found Mejia not breathing, and he was pronounced dead shortly afterward.

Investigators believe Mejia was shot by an unknown assailant, and the case is still in the early stages. Police are asking the public for help in identifying any witnesses or potential suspects present in the area between midnight and 9:21 a.m. on Dec. 28. Residents with home or business surveillance systems are urged to review footage that might provide clues and submit any relevant evidence to authorities.
