Fatal Toledo car crash death of Nancy Murphy – Obituary

Nancy Murphy, a 58-year-old Toledo resident, died early Friday morning following a serious crash in east Toledo that authorities believe involved alcohol.

The collision happened just after midnight at the intersection of Woodville Road and Varland Avenue. Police say a vehicle traveling southbound on Woodville Road ran a red light and struck another car that was heading north through the intersection. The impact forced both vehicles off the roadway.

Murphy was the driver of the northbound vehicle. Her passenger, 70-year-old Mark Murphy, also of Toledo, was transported to the hospital along with her. Both later succumbed to their injuries.

The 24-year-old Toledo driver accused of running the red light suffered serious but non-life-threatening injuries and was also taken to the hospital. Investigators indicated that alcohol is believed to have played a role in the crash, though no charges have been announced at this time.

Police say the investigation remains ongoing as they continue to review the circumstances surrounding the fatal crash.
