Authorities in Lexington County have confirmed the identity of the woman who lost her life in a traffic collision earlier this week. Coroner Margaret Fisher said the victim was Cheryl S. Deichmann, a 78-year-old resident of Lexington.

According to investigators, the crash occurred Tuesday on Old Chapin Road. Deichmann was driving westbound when her vehicle collided with an oncoming car traveling in the opposite direction. Officials reported that she was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the impact.

Emergency responders transported Deichmann to a nearby hospital following the collision, but she later died from her injuries. The driver of the second vehicle was also taken to the hospital for treatment.

The incident remains under investigation by the Lexington County Coroner’s Office in coordination with the South Carolina Highway Patrol as they continue to review the circumstances surrounding the fatal crash.
