Fatal Phoenix, Arizona car crash death of Mario Dircio-Castrejon – Obituary
Mario Dircio-Castrejon, a 28-year-old man from Phoenix, died early Tuesday morning after his vehicle collided with a light-rail train in central Phoenix. The crash occurred near the intersection of Central Avenue and Indian School Road.
According to Phoenix police, first responders were called to the scene around 5 a.m. and found that Dircio-Castrejon’s white pickup truck had struck a southbound tram after he reportedly ran a red light while traveling east on Indian School Road. The impact caused the light rail vehicle to derail, and the truck was heavily damaged.
Dircio-Castrejon was pronounced dead at the scene. At least six passengers were aboard the light rail during the collision, and three individuals were taken to the hospital as a precautionary measure.
Valley Metro, the operator of the light rail, announced that train service was suspended between the Central Ave./Camelback and Thomas/Central Ave. stations, with shuttle buses provided to transport passengers along the affected route.
