Fatal Pompano Beach, Florida car crash death of Richard Manuel Alcocer – Obituary
Richard Manuel Alcocer, an 18-year-old student from Pompano Beach, died following a violent two-vehicle crash that claimed the lives of three teenagers on Monday night. Richard Manuel Alcocer was identified by the Broward Sheriff’s Office as the driver of the vehicle involved in the deadly collision.
Authorities said the crash occurred just before 7 p.m. in the 1600 block of North Federal Highway. Investigators determined that a 2014 white BMW M5, driven by Alcocer, was traveling southbound when it struck the raised concrete median for reasons that have not yet been fully explained. After losing control, the BMW collided with a 2024 Acura Integra that had just turned right out of a shopping plaza near Northeast 18th Street.
Following the initial impact, the BMW slid across the roadway, jumped the curb on the west side of the highway, and slammed into a Broward County Transit bus stop, a concrete light pole, and a tree. The Acura came to a controlled stop in a left-turn lane.
Two passengers in the BMW, identified as 16-year-old Miguel Montez and 15-year-old Ruben Baltazar, were also killed. Broward County Public Schools confirmed that all three teens were students at Blanche Ely High School. Emergency crews from the Broward Sheriff’s Office and Pompano Beach Fire Rescue worked to extricate the teens from the wreckage before transporting them to Broward Health North, where all three were pronounced dead.
Family members and friends described Alcocer as a kind and welcoming young man who treated everyone with respect. A memorial was later assembled by community members to honor the lives lost.
Investigators noted that excessive speed is believed to be a possible contributing factor in the crash. The incident remains under active investigation by the Broward Sheriff’s Office.
