Authorities have released additional information surrounding the deadly Christmas Day shooting that claimed the life of Yanira Magdalena Sanchez in Rockport, Texas. Yanira Magdalena Sanchez, 50, was found with fatal gunshot injuries inside her home after police responded to an emergency call on December 25.
Investigators with the Rockport Police Department and the Texas Rangers stated that Yanira’s husband, 65-year-old Alberto Sanchez, was also discovered at the scene suffering from a gunshot wound. Yanira was pronounced dead at the location, while Alberto was transported for medical treatment.
Officials said Alberto initially informed officers that he had shot his wife, but due to his injuries, he could not be fully questioned at that time. During a later interview, investigators reported that Alberto admitted to shooting Yanira and then turning the gun on himself.
Law enforcement confirmed that no one else was inside the residence at the time of the incident. Evidence collected from the scene and statements provided were consistent with investigators’ findings.
An autopsy performed by the Fort Bend County Medical Examiner’s Office determined that Yanira Magdalena Sanchez died as a result of homicide. Alberto Sanchez has since been arrested and charged with murder.
