Fatal Richmond, California shooting death of Romario Raso Garcia – Obituary

Romario Raso Garcia was identified by his family as the man who was shot and killed on December 29 while working in the kitchen of a Richmond IHOP. His sister, Arianna Garcia, confirmed his identity in a GoFundMe post created to help the family cover funeral and burial expenses following his death.

According to the family, Garcia was “tragically killed at his workplace” while on duty, an event that left loved ones unprepared for the sudden loss. His sister described the moment as devastating and thanked supporters who have offered help during what she called an incredibly painful time.

Richmond police said officers were dispatched shortly before 1:45 p.m. to the IHOP located on Klose Way. When they arrived, they found Garcia, believed to be in his 30s, lying on the floor with severe head injuries, according to Richmond Police Chief Tim Simmons. He was later pronounced dead.

Garcia’s social media indicated he lived in San Pablo and was originally from Mexico City. The shooting sent shockwaves through the community, particularly among coworkers and residents familiar with the restaurant.

The following day, December 30, police said a San Pablo man considered a person of interest in the IHOP killing shot himself in the parking lot of the San Pablo Police Department. Authorities reported that the man, 44, attempted to communicate with officers but faced a language barrier before a single gunshot was heard. He was found with what appeared to be a self-inflicted gunshot wound and was transported to the hospital in critical condition.

Investigations into the shooting death of Romario Raso Garcia remain ongoing.
