Barry Evans, 60, was killed in a shooting that occurred overnight near the University of Tennessee campus in Knoxville, according to police. The deadly incident happened in the area of Neyland Drive and Joan Cronan Way and led to a murder arrest later the same day.

Knoxville Police Department officers responded after Evans was found unresponsive in the 2000 block of Neyland Drive. He was transported to UT Medical Center, where he was later pronounced dead.

Investigators said the shooting stemmed from an altercation between Evans and someone he personally knew. Police identified the suspect as 44-year-old Dytangie Woodfin of Knoxville.

Following additional investigation Thursday evening, officers detained Woodfin in the area of Spruce Street and Fifth Avenue. After questioning by homicide detectives, he was arrested and charged with first-degree murder, possession of a weapon by a convicted felon, and using a firearm during the commission of a felony.

Police also worked with University of Tennessee Police to identify a vehicle connected to the case. That vehicle was later located at a Shell gas station on East Summit Hill Drive, where two individuals inside were detained and questioned as part of the investigation.

The case remains under investigation as authorities continue to review the circumstances surrounding the fatal shooting.
