Douglas McQueen dies in fatal Pelham, Alabama hit-and-run

Fatal Pelham, Alabama hit-and-run death of Douglas McQueen – Obituary

Douglas McQueen, 57, lost his life Wednesday morning after being struck while riding his bicycle in Pelham, Alabama.

The Pelham Police Department reported that McQueen was traveling north on Pelham Parkway (U.S. 31) near Amphitheater Road around 6 a.m. when he was hit. He was well-known in the community for frequently riding his bike around the city.

McQueen was initially placed on life support, but the Shelby County coroner confirmed he died at the hospital the following day. Authorities later arrested 76-year-old Howard Milton Murphy of Alabaster within Pelham city limits. Murphy is currently held at the Shelby County Jail, charged with leaving the scene of an accident resulting in injury or death, with additional charges expected.

The Traffic Homicide Investigation Task Force continues to examine the circumstances surrounding the incident.
