A tragic accident early Saturday morning in McAllen claimed the life of 25-year-old Jacob Rodriguez and left six others injured. The crash occurred around 2:08 a.m. in the 1600 block of North Bicentennial Boulevard when a Ford Bronco SUV, carrying seven people, veered off the road and overturned after hitting a stone fixture.
The vehicle’s driver, 18-year-old Gabriela Nuñez Garcia, along with six others aged 18 to 25, were transported to local hospitals with injuries of varying severity. Jacob Rodriguez, a passenger in the vehicle, was pronounced dead at the scene.
Police are investigating the incident, with reports suggesting alcohol may have played a role. Potential charges, including felony offenses and intoxication manslaughter, are under review. McAllen authorities have indicated they will pursue criminal charges against those deemed responsible for the crash.
McAllen Mayor Javier Villalobos responded to the tragic incident in a statement posted on Facebook, calling for stronger legislation and enforcement to prevent such tragedies in the future. He emphasized the need to prioritize safety over profit in the city’s entertainment districts.
