Fatal Virginia Beach shooting death of Jeremiah Cuffee – Obituary

Jeremiah Cuffee, 19, has died after a shooting at a house party in Virginia Beach early Thursday morning, his family confirmed.

Virginia Beach Police responded to reports of gunfire around 12:30 a.m. at a residence on the corner of Frazier Lane and Centennial Circle, where neighbors said a New Year’s party was underway. Witnesses estimated 30 to 40 guests, mostly in their late teens and early 20s, were attending when a physical altercation broke out between two individuals.

Tyre Johnson, a close friend of Cuffee, described how the crowd quickly gathered around the fight before a gunshot was heard. Johnson recounted hearing Cuffee cry out that he had been shot, and despite trying to provide comfort, the young man succumbed to his injuries after being transported to the hospital. Authorities confirmed Cuffee was shot in the back.

Johnson remembered Cuffee as a caring and hardworking individual who always checked in on friends and carried himself responsibly. In the aftermath of the tragedy, he urged young people to avoid firearms, warning that the risks are far too high.

Police continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the shooting.
