Joshua Butler dies in fatal Hughes County, Oklahoma shooting

Fatal Hughes County, Oklahoma shooting death of Joshua Butler – Obituary

Joshua Butler was shot and killed Wednesday afternoon by an Oklahoma Highway Patrol trooper near Wetumka, Oklahoma.

Butler, a former Hughes County inmate who had escaped from the Okfuskee County Jail last week, was being sought by authorities when troopers spotted a vehicle of interest shortly after noon. Reports indicate that Butler exited the vehicle armed with a rifle and ran into a pasture along State Highway 9, approximately two miles west of Wetumka.

Officials have not released additional details regarding the circumstances that led to the shooting. The investigation by OHP is ongoing.
