Fatal Tamarac shooting death of Orlando Wedderburn – Obituary
Orlando Wedderburn, a 16-year-old boy, was killed in a shooting at a Tamarac home on the 7900 block of Northwest 71st Avenue late on New Year’s Eve. Broward County deputies responded to the scene after reports of gunfire and found Wedderburn with a gunshot wound. He was transported by Tamarac Fire Rescue to a nearby hospital, where he later died from his injuries.
Neighbors described the chaotic scene, with Wedderburn reportedly running across the street and taking cover behind a truck as he bled. Surveillance footage captured paramedics administering aid at that location. An evidence marker was placed at the spot where he collapsed.
A woman was also grazed by a bullet and received treatment on the scene. Deputies said an altercation occurred inside the home before the shooting, but details remain under investigation. One man detained at the scene claimed self-defense and was released.
Authorities spent the morning collecting evidence from inside the house and two vehicles outside, while detectives continue interviewing witnesses and Wedderburn’s mother. Once the investigation concludes, the case will be submitted to the Broward County State Attorney’s Office to consider possible criminal charges.
