Fatal Columbus, Ohio shooting death of Spencer Tepe and Monique Tepe – Obituary
Spencer Tepe, 37, and his wife Monique Tepe, 39, were found dead inside their Columbus, Ohio home following an apparent shooting, while their two young children were discovered unharmed, according to police.
Columbus Police officers were dispatched to the couple’s residence on North 4th Street shortly after 10 a.m. on Tuesday, December 30, to conduct a welfare check after concerns were raised by coworkers and friends. Upon entering the home, officers located both adults suffering from apparent gunshot wounds. Paramedics later pronounced them dead at the scene.
Investigators said there were no signs of forced entry and no firearms were recovered from inside the house. Police records indicate Spencer Tepe had been shot multiple times, while Monique Tepe sustained at least one gunshot wound to the chest.
Authorities have stated that they do not believe the incident was a murder-suicide, though no suspect information has been released as the investigation continues.
The welfare check was initially requested after Spencer, a dentist at Athens Dental Depot, failed to report to work and could not be reached. A colleague told dispatchers that his absence was highly unusual and raised immediate concern for both Spencer and his wife.
Later that morning, friends went to the home and contacted police again after hearing children crying inside and receiving no response at the door. One caller reported being able to see Spencer’s body inside the residence.
Spencer and Monique Tepe were reportedly just one month away from celebrating their fifth wedding anniversary, having married in 2021. Colleagues and community members have since shared tributes, remembering Spencer as a dedicated professional and expressing condolences to the family as authorities work to determine what led to the fatal shooting.
