Fatal Coryell County hit-and-run death of Benny Ray Manning – Obituary
Authorities have charged 86-year-old Russell Allan Meier of Copperas Cove in connection with the fatal hit-and-run that claimed the life of 63-year-old Benny Ray Manning on December 26. Manning was struck around 5 p.m. at the intersection of Bea Powell Road and Grimes Crossing.
According to the arrest warrant, Meier did not stop at the scene because he believed he had hit a trash bag. He later passed the crash site on his way home but chose to take an alternate route instead of speaking with investigators.
Troopers with the Texas Department of Public Safety linked a white 2015 Dodge Ram, driven by Meier, to the crash after discovering front-end damage that matched debris collected at the scene, including white paint and a damaged headlamp.
Evidence suggested the motorcycle may have been struck by another vehicle before the fatal collision.
