Fatal Fresno County canal death of Francisco Madera – Obituary

Authorities have confirmed that the body recovered from a Fresno County canal earlier this week belongs to 34-year-old Francisco Madera, who had been reported missing by his family two weeks prior. Madera’s family had circulated missing-person posters across the area after he was last seen on December 13.

The Fresno County Sheriff’s Office dive team retrieved Madera from the California Aqueduct near Goldenrod Avenue and Gale Avenue, southwest of Huron, on December 31. Investigators noted that his vehicle had been discovered earlier, on December 15, after it crashed into a tree near the aqueduct at Mitchell Avenue and Highway 145. Evidence at the scene suggested that Madera had entered the canal following the crash.
