Fred W. Tyrell, 81, was tragically killed in a house fire on Old Center Harbor Road in Meredith, New Hampshire, on New Year’s Eve, authorities confirmed. The state medical examiner determined that Tyrell’s death was caused by smoke inhalation and ruled the manner accidental.

Meredith police responded to the home at 6:46 p.m. Wednesday for a welfare check. Upon entering, officers detected smoke and immediately called the fire department. Firefighters arrived quickly and extinguished a small basement fire, but Tyrell was found unresponsive on the first floor and pronounced dead at the scene.

Officials continue to investigate the circumstances of the fire. Tyrell is mourned by his family, friends, and the local community following this devastating loss.
