Fatal Stark County crash death of Joshua Smothers – Obituary
Joshua Smothers, 38, of Canton, lost his life in a multi-vehicle accident in Osnaburg Township last month, authorities confirmed Friday.
The Ohio State Highway Patrol reported that the collision occurred on U.S. Route 30 near milepost 24 just before 5 p.m. on Thursday, Dec. 18. Preliminary findings indicate that a Chevrolet Silverado, driven by a 19-year-old woman from East Canton, had stopped to turn left onto Cindell Street SE, with a Ford Escort positioned behind it.
A Ford F-150, driven by a 33-year-old man from Minerva, struck the Escort, causing it to collide with the Silverado. Both the Escort and the F-150 caught fire following the impact. A westbound Tesla Model Y was also damaged by debris but its driver was unharmed.
The driver of the Escort, later identified as Joshua Smothers, was pronounced dead at the scene. The drivers of the Silverado and F-150 sustained injuries that were not life-threatening. Investigators confirmed that alcohol and drugs were not involved, and the highway patrol continues to examine the circumstances of the crash.
