Fatal Mount Baldy, Calif. hiking incident death of Juan Sarat Lopez, Bayron Pedro Ramos Garcia, and Marcus Alexander Muench Casanova – Obituary

Three hikers tragically lost their lives on Mount Baldy earlier this week, authorities confirmed. The victims have been identified as Juan Sarat Lopez, 37, Bayron Pedro Ramos Garcia, 36—both Los Angeles residents originally from Guatemala—and 19-year-old Marcus Alexander Muench Casanova.

Their bodies were found on Monday, though high winds and dangerous conditions delayed recovery until Tuesday. Friends reported that Casanova fell approximately 500 feet near Devil’s Backbone, a steep and treacherous trail that attracts adventurous hikers to the San Gabriel Mountains’ highest peak.

While crews were searching for Casanova, they discovered Lopez and Garcia at a separate location. Officials said the two men were not hiking with Casanova when the fatal accidents occurred.

Authorities are reviewing the circumstances surrounding the deaths of all three men and continue to urge extreme caution for anyone hiking in Mount Baldy, particularly in winter weather. Friends and family are mourning the sudden loss of the hikers, who were well-regarded in their communities.
