Fatal California Mount Baldy crash death of Juan Sarat Lopez – Obituary
Authorities have confirmed that Juan Sarat Lopez, a 37-year-old Los Angeles resident originally from Guatemala, is among three hikers who lost their lives on Mount Baldy earlier this week. Lopez was identified alongside fellow hiker Bayron Pedro Ramos Garcia, 36, after search teams located their bodies on the mountain.
The San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department reported that the victims were discovered on Monday, though severe winds and hazardous conditions forced recovery crews to postpone retrieval operations until the following day.
A third hiker, Marcus Alexander Muench Casanova, 19, had been identified prior to the announcement of Lopez and Garcia. According to friends, Casanova suffered a fall of approximately 500 feet near the Devil’s Backbone trail, a narrow and dangerous path known for drawing adventurous hikers to the snow-covered summit of the San Gabriel Mountains’ highest peak.
While search crews were conducting operations related to Casanova’s fall, they unexpectedly came upon the bodies of Lopez and Garcia in a separate area. Investigators stated that Lopez and Garcia were not hiking with Casanova at the time of the incident, and the circumstances surrounding their deaths remain under review.
