Justin Garrett Jiminez, 32, was fatally shot at a homeless encampment near Redmond, Oregon, during the early hours of New Year’s Eve, authorities confirmed.
Deputies from the Deschutes County Sheriff’s Office responded just before 6 a.m. on December 31 to reports of gunfire at a large, unsanctioned camp known locally as “Redmond Dirt World,” located near Northeast 17th Street and Greenwood Avenue. Upon arrival, officers found Jiminez dead at the scene from a gunshot wound, with a firearm recovered nearby.
Investigators have identified 51-year-old Don Henry Vandenberg Jr., known as “Tank,” as a person of interest. Vandenberg is considered armed and dangerous. He is described as approximately 5-foot-7, 160 pounds, bald with facial hair, and heavily tattooed, including markings reading “Fit for Duty” on his chest and “Tank” on his upper abdomen. Authorities urge anyone with information about his whereabouts to contact 911 immediately.
