Fatal Indianapolis river accident death of Robert “RJ” Williams – Obituary
Robert “RJ” Williams, a 16-year-old autistic teen, tragically lost his life after being found in a river in Indianapolis. Williams had been reported missing on Dec. 17 from the 1000 block of Broad Ripple Avenue, near the Monon Trail Crossing east of Winthrop Avenue. A search the following day uncovered his backpack and gym bag along the White River.
On Saturday at around 1 p.m., an IMPD North District officer conducting a drone search in the 6300 block of Westfield Boulevard located a juvenile male’s body in the water, preliminarily identified as Williams. Indianapolis Fire Department divers assisted in recovering the body.
IMPD Public Information Officer Drew Brown expressed gratitude for the efforts of detectives, the Indiana Department of Natural Resources, the fire department, and community members whose cooperation helped bring closure to the case. The Marion County Coroner’s Office will confirm the body’s identity once the recovery process is complete.
