A West Virginia man tragically lost his life Thursday when the truck he was working on fell on him, authorities confirmed. Sam Pierson Jr., 44, a pastor at Grace Church of the Nazarene in South Charleston, was fatally injured on the 2600 block of Virginia Avenue in Hurricane.

Mayor Scott Edwards reported that Pierson was working on his pickup truck just before 5 p.m. when it toppled, trapping him underneath. First responders arrived within minutes, but Pierson had already succumbed to his injuries.

Virginia Avenue remained closed for several hours while police investigated the scene. Pierson is remembered by his congregation and community for his dedication as a pastor and his service to others.
