Fatal Hargill, Texas shooting death of David Adam Garza – Obituary

David Adam Garza, 41, was killed Thursday evening in Hargill, Texas, after being shot during a confrontation, according to the Hidalgo County Sheriff’s Office. Garza was found unresponsive with gunshot wounds at the corner of 5th Street and Gill Avenue following a minor vehicle crash.

Authorities said Garza had been involved in a fight a few blocks away from the crash site. After leaving that location in his white Tundra truck, he was struck by multiple shots fired by a suspect identified as 23-year-old Jose Ascencion Lopez Jr. Garza continued driving north on Gill Street, where he collided with a tree. Witnesses pulled him from the vehicle and attempted life-saving measures, but he was pronounced dead at the scene.

Lopez Jr. was arraigned at the Hidalgo County Adult Detention Center and charged with murder, a first-degree felony. His bond was set at $1.5 million. Investigators recovered a handgun containing the same brand and caliber of ammunition as used in the shooting.
