Fatal Boston car crash death of John Axelrod – Obituary

John Axelrod was fatally injured Saturday morning after being struck by a vehicle in Boston’s Back Bay area, a crash authorities say became a hit-and-run and has since led to murder charges against the suspected driver.

Police said the incident occurred shortly after 8 a.m. near the intersection of Commonwealth Avenue and Hereford Street. Investigators reported that Axelrod was out walking his dog when the vehicle hit him and then left the scene.

Axelrod was rushed to a nearby hospital for emergency treatment but later succumbed to his injuries. His dog, which was with him at the time of the crash, also died as a result of the impact.

Beyond the tragic circumstances of his death, Axelrod was widely known for his longstanding support of the arts. The Museum of Fine Arts in Boston confirmed that he served as an honorary advisor and had been a dedicated donor to the institution since the 1980s. In recognition of his contributions, the museum named the John Axelrod Gallery in the Art of the Americas Wing in his honor in 2009.

The investigation into the crash remains ongoing as authorities continue legal proceedings connected to the case.
