Zoe Welsh, a beloved science teacher at Ravenscroft School in Raleigh, North Carolina, was killed Saturday morning following a violent home invasion, authorities reported. The incident occurred just after 6:30 a.m. at a residence on the 800 block of Clay Street.
Police said Welsh had called 911 to report an intruder inside her home. While still on the line with dispatch, she was attacked and beaten. She was rushed to a nearby hospital but succumbed to her injuries.
Ravenscroft School expressed deep sorrow over the loss of Welsh, noting her many years of dedication to the Upper School Science Department and the wider school community. Colleagues and students mourned her passing as a profound loss.
Authorities later located the suspect, 36-year-old Ryan Camacho, who was taken into custody and questioned. Camacho has since been charged with murder and felony burglary in connection with Welsh’s death. Raleigh Police continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the tragic incident.
