Fatal Phoenix shooting death of Eyosiyas Belema Jote – Obituary

Eyosiyas Belema Jote, 21, has died from injuries sustained in a late-December shooting in downtown Phoenix, authorities confirmed Sunday.

The incident occurred just after 2 a.m. on December 28 near First and Washington streets, when off-duty officers reported hearing multiple gunshots. Jote was struck in the head, and three women were also injured. All victims were rushed to a nearby hospital, where the women are expected to recover.

Police arrested 22-year-old Keon Malik Joubert the following day, charging him with four counts of aggravated assault. With Jote’s death now confirmed, Joubert may face additional homicide charges.
