Fernando Ortiz, a man reported missing on Christmas Day, was found deceased Saturday afternoon in West Point Lake, authorities confirmed.

Ortiz was last seen on Dec. 25, 2025, on Liberty Hill Road in Troup County. Following his disappearance, multiple agencies—including the Troup County Fire Department, Emergency Management Agency, Georgia Department of Natural Resources, the Corps of Engineers, and AMR—conducted extensive search operations using ground, air, and water resources, but he was not located at that time.

On Saturday around 1:45 p.m., a Georgia Emergency Search and Rescue team discovered Ortiz’s body in West Point Lake. The cause of death has not yet been determined, and the Georgia Bureau of Investigation will perform an autopsy to establish further details.

Authorities said the investigation into Ortiz’s death remains ongoing as officials continue to follow leads.
