Fatal Bakersfield, California shooting death of Joseph Macias – Obituary
Joseph Macias, 22, of Bakersfield, California, was killed Friday night after being shot while attempting to intervene in a robbery at a local grocery store. Macias was pronounced dead at the scene following the incident.
Bakersfield police reported that the shooting occurred just before 9:30 p.m. at the Foods Co. on White Lane and H Street. Investigators said Macias, along with another patron, witnessed the robbery and tried to stop the suspects. One of the robbers opened fire, striking Macias.
Family members described Macias as a devoted son, brother, and father. He had not been employed by the store and had only stopped in to pick up groceries for a barbecue. His loved ones said his bravery in helping others ultimately cost him his life.

The Macias family has set up a GoFundMe page to assist with funeral expenses as the community mourns the loss of a young life taken too soon.
