Fatal Springfield, Massachusetts vehicular assault death of Robert Crane – Obituary

Robert Crane, a resident of Springfield, Massachusetts, was killed Friday, January 2, after being intentionally struck in a driveway by a neighbor’s vehicle. Crane succumbed to injuries sustained during the assault.

Authorities report that Joseph Vaughn, also of Springfield, allegedly used his car as a weapon to assault and fatally injure Crane. Vaughn was arraigned Monday on charges including murder and assault and battery with a dangerous weapon. During the court hearing, prosecutors stated that Vaughn intended to kill Crane through the attack.

The incident occurred on Shady Brook Lane, where police initially responded and secured the scene. Springfield Fire officials confirmed that the assault took place in a driveway, not on the street. Records show that Vaughn’s residence is the same location where the fatal encounter occurred.

Vaughn is currently being held without bail after pleading not guilty. The court has also ordered a psychiatric evaluation as part of the ongoing legal proceedings. Law enforcement continues to investigate the circumstances surrounding Crane’s death.
