Springfield, Massachusetts Man Joseph Vaughn Arrested in Springfield for Murder

SPRINGFIELD, MA — Joseph Vaughn, a Springfield resident whose age was not released, was arrested in Springfield in connection with the fatal killing of his neighbor late last week.

According to the Hampden County District Attorney’s Office, Vaughn was taken into custody and arraigned on Monday following an incident that occurred Friday, January 2, 2026, on Shady Brook Lane. Prosecutors allege Vaughn intentionally used his vehicle as a weapon, assaulted, and beat 53-year-old Robert Crane in a driveway, resulting in Crane’s death.

Vaughn was transported to a local detention facility and is currently facing charges including murder and assault and battery with a dangerous weapon. He is being held without bail pending further proceedings, and the court has ordered a psychiatric evaluation.
