Anthony White, 77, was killed in a violent stabbing at his home in Cove City, North Carolina, authorities confirmed.
The incident occurred on Monday, January 5, 2026, when the Craven County Sheriff’s Office was called to a residence on Sidney Road following reports of an assault. Deputies were informed that the suspect had already fled the scene before they arrived.
While responding, officers located the suspect vehicle traveling along North Carolina Highway 55 near Wetherington Farm Road. A traffic stop was conducted, and the suspect was taken into custody without incident.
Deputies later arrived at the Sidney Road home, where they discovered Anthony White suffering from multiple stab wounds. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
Investigators identified the suspect as Derrick Preston White, 18, who also lived at the residence. Authorities stated that the investigation revealed Derrick White assaulted his grandmother before turning his attack on Anthony White.
Derrick Preston White has been charged with an open count of murder and was booked into the Craven County Detention Facility, where he is being held without bond. The investigation remains ongoing as authorities continue to gather additional details surrounding the fatal incident.
