Columbia, Missouri Man James Lamont Caldwell Jr. Arrested in Boone County for Deadly Apartment Complex Shooting
COLUMBIA, MO — James Lamont Caldwell Jr., a 23-year-old resident of Fulton, was arrested in Boone County in connection with a fatal shooting that occurred Sunday night at an apartment complex on Clark Lane.
According to the Columbia Police Department, Caldwell was taken into custody on Sunday at the scene of the incident at The Greens apartment complex in the 4800 block of Clark Lane. Authorities say the shooting occurred around 9 p.m. and involved three victims. One of them, identified as 21-year-old Brianna N. Hawkins of Fulton, later died at a hospital.
Investigators reported that two of the victims identified Caldwell as the shooter. A probable cause statement also noted that one victim was stabbed in addition to being shot, and another victim was hospitalized in critical condition. Video footage from a nearby apartment complex reportedly showed a person chasing another individual while firing a weapon.
Caldwell was transported to a local detention facility and is currently facing charges of second-degree murder, two counts of first-degree assault, and armed criminal action. Prosecutors indicated the case is being investigated as a domestic violence-related incident.
