Cove City, North Carolina Man Arrested in Craven County for Fatal Stabbing of Grandfather

COVE CITY, N.C. — Derrick Preston White, an 18-year-old resident of Cove City, was arrested in Craven County in connection with a fatal stabbing that left his grandfather dead.

According to the Craven County Sheriff’s Office, White was taken into custody on Monday during a traffic stop on N.C. 55 Highway near Wetherington Farm Road after deputies responded to an assault call on Sidney Road in Cove City. Authorities say the incident occurred earlier that day and involved an attack at the family residence.

Deputies later found Anthony White, 77, deceased from multiple stab wounds. Investigators determined that Derrick White allegedly assaulted his grandmother before fatally stabbing his grandfather.

White was transported to the Craven County Detention Facility, where he was charged with an open count of murder and is being held without bond.
