Fatal Jacksonville shooting death of Daniel Rodriguez – Obituary
Daniel Rodriguez, 34, was fatally shot by Jacksonville police officers during a domestic disturbance investigation Monday night, according to authorities.
The shooting occurred around 8:30 p.m. on January 6, 2026, at the Bartram Park Apartments at Luxor Club on Egrets Nest Drive. Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office officers were dispatched after receiving multiple emergency calls, including reports of a woman screaming.
Police said witnesses saw a woman standing on the hood of a Tesla, striking the vehicle, during an apparent domestic altercation. Officers were told that Rodriguez had briefly left the area before returning.
According to investigators, Rodriguez came back carrying a firearm at his side. Officers determined the situation involved a domestic dispute between Rodriguez and his wife, who was present at the scene.
As two officers approached him, police said Rodriguez pulled out a handgun. Both officers then fired their weapons, striking Rodriguez. He was transported to a nearby hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.
The officers involved were identified as Officer Jay Rodrick, a six-year veteran of the department, and Officer Jay Milam, who has served with the sheriff’s office for four years. The incident marked Rodrick’s second officer-involved shooting and Milam’s first.
The shooting remains under investigation, following standard procedure for officer-involved incidents.
