Fatal Independence police chase crash death of Daniel Sanchez – Obituary

Daniel Sanchez, 47, was killed in a crash during a police pursuit in Independence on New Year’s Eve. Authorities say officers were chasing a gray Ford F-250 for multiple traffic violations around 8:15 p.m. near Blue Ridge Boulevard and Wilson Road when the fleeing driver ran a red light and struck a blue pickup before colliding with Sanchez’s vehicle. Sanchez was transported to a hospital, where he died the next morning. Two passengers in his car suffered critical injuries.

After hitting Sanchez, the suspect continued fleeing, hitting a recreational vehicle on private property before abandoning the truck and fleeing on foot. The driver remained at large as of January 6, and the investigation is ongoing. Police also reported that the Ford F-250 had been stolen.
