Danny Chiu, 69, was identified by Alameda County officials as the bicyclist who lost his life in a fatal traffic collision in Fremont on Friday.

The fatal Fremont car crash death of Danny Chiu occurred shortly after noon in the 44000 block of Osgood Road, where he was riding his bicycle at the time of the incident. Investigators said a large commercial truck was traveling northbound on Osgood Road and moved into a left-turn lane to enter a business parking lot.

Police reported that Chiu was riding southbound when the truck began its turn, and the two collided. The impact occurred on the front driver’s side of the semi-truck, striking the oncoming bicyclist.

Emergency responders arrived at the scene, but Chiu was pronounced dead at the location of the crash. Authorities stated that alcohol or drugs are not believed to have played a role in the collision.

The Fremont Police Department continues to investigate the circumstances surrounding the crash. Officials noted that this incident represents the first fatal traffic collision reported in Fremont so far this year.
