Fatal Lafayette car crash death of Hannah Dowell – Obituary

Hannah Dowell, 29, of Lafayette, was identified as the driver who lost her life in a single-vehicle crash that occurred Monday morning on the city’s east side, according to the Tippecanoe County Coroner’s Office.

The fatal Lafayette car crash death of Hannah Dowell was confirmed through fingerprint identification after the incident left the vehicle badly damaged by fire. Authorities said Dowell was traveling north on Courtland Avenue around 8:30 a.m. when her SUV left the roadway near the north end of the street.

Investigators reported that the vehicle passed through a residential yard, struck part of a home, hit trash containers, and collided with a basketball hoop before continuing along a shared driveway. The SUV then went beyond the end of the drive, plunged into a ravine, and struck a tree.

Witnesses told officials the SUV erupted into flames following the crash. Lafayette firefighters responded quickly and were able to put out the fire. Police later confirmed that Dowell had been ejected from the vehicle during the incident.

No additional details about the cause of the crash have been released. The coroner said an autopsy for Dowell is scheduled to take place Thursday as the investigation continues.
