Offero Manalon, 68, was shot by Jacksonville deputies Monday night after allegedly pointing a firearm at law enforcement during a standoff in Arlington, Florida.
The incident began just before 8:45 p.m. on Creeks Ridge Road when JSO responded to reports of gunfire. Deputies initially detained a man inside the residence who had a long gun. Shortly afterward, Manalon allegedly entered the garage, picked up the firearm, and aimed it at officers, prompting deputies to open fire.
Manalon was wounded and retreated into the home, where SWAT teams later intervened, using gas to secure his exit after a standoff lasting approximately three hours. He was transported to a local hospital, and his current condition has not been disclosed.
No deputies were injured during the confrontation. Authorities continue to investigate the events surrounding the shooting.
